Frequently asked questions

Learn more about our Cornish Dairy Co standards and delicious Cornish dairy products.

Were you previously known as Trewithen Dairy?

As we look to the future, we want our name to reflect what makes us truly special: our Cornish heritage and joy we bring through food. That’s why Trewithen Dairy has become Cornish Dairy Co. This name is proudly about who we are, tells our story, and is a promise to keep delivering the same exceptional quality to your table.

Are Cornish Dairy Co farmers part of the Bovaer feed trial?

We can confirm none of our partner farms are involved in the Bovaer feed additive trial. At Cornish Dairy Co, we remain committed to reducing carbon emissions through regenerative farming practices.

Is it jam first or cream first?

The Cornish way to enjoy a cream tea is to break the scone with your hands, before spreading each side with a layer of jam followed by a generous dollop of Cornish clotted cream. The jam prevents the warm scone from melting the cream!

What can you do with leftover clotted cream?

Is it possible to have leftover clotted cream?! We love it stirred through scrambled eggs, spooned into mashed potato and added to ragus to add depth and richness. It’s so versatile for both savoury and sweet dishes – check out our recipes pages for inspiration.

Is Cornish Dairy Co milk organic?

We don’t produce organic milk. We work to a set of high standards and we work with farmers who are exploring regenerative farming tools and techniques.

Are Cornish Dairy Co products pasteurised and suitable for pregnant women?

All our products are made from pasteurised milk, and suitable for pregnant women but always consult with a health professional if you are ever unsure.

What are the Cornish Dairy Co farming standards?

Wherever possible our cows graze on pastures and this is independently audited as part of the annual Red Tractor audit.

Although no two Cornish Dairy Co farms are the same, all our farmers share a common set of values and comply with a comprehensive set of standards that ensure high levels of animal health, welfare and husbandry.

We share our farmers’ commitment to continuous improvement in the area of animal health and welfare. As such, we are determined to work with and support them, to ensure that their on-farm practices and performance levels meet the expectations of our customers and ultimately those who consume our products.

Are all of your farmers in Cornwall?

Yes, our Cornish milk comes from our own directly contracted farmers, all based within a 25 mile radius of our dairy.

Are your products vegetarian?

Yes, they are.

How do you make Cornish clotted cream?

We make our clotted cream very carefully, in line with the requirements of its Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status. We heat our Cornish cream very slowly at a low temperature until we have a generous, golden crust.

How long does clotted cream last?

Always check the use by date on the pack and consume within three days of opening.

Can I freeze clotted cream?

We recommend that you do not freeze our Cornish Clotted Cream as it’s best enjoyed fresh. Freezing affects it’s creamy texture once thawed, leading to it becoming dry and crumbly. Check out our recipes page for inspiration on how to use up any leftovers. Read our blog about ‘can you freeze clotted cream‘ for more information.

Are your bottles and lids recyclable?

Yes, we encourage all our milk bottles and lids to be recycled so they can be made into more milk bottles.

What’s the best way to recycle milk bottles?

They crush down perfectly just as they are and can be left with your council recycling collection. The lids can be recycled too.

How do I sterilise glass bottles to use with your self serve machine?

Give them a hot wash in the dishwasher or hot soapy water and ensure there are no visible remnants left after the wash. Leave to dry and you’re ready to take back to refill again.
