Cornish Unsalted Butter

Seriously rich and creamy, our delicious unsalted butter is made for everyday cooking and home baking. From perfect pastries to crowd-pleasing cakes and smooth, rich sauces, it brings a little taste of Cornwall to wharever’s on the menu.

Deliciously creamy

Our creamy unsalted butter is as deliciously rich as it looks. Thickly spread on a fresh saffron bun or soak slowly into hot toast.

We’re not sure if it’s the luxuriously smooth texture, the buttercup yellow colour, the rich flavour or the fact that it’s churned using Cornish cream that makes our Cornish unsalted butter so special.

Cornish Dairy

At Cornish Dairy Co, we and our farmers are passionate about the health and welfare of the cows that produce the essential ingredient in all our great tasting dairy products – high-quality, Cornish milk. The dairy farms that are contracted to supply Cornish Dairy Co are all located within 25 miles of the dairy, and we take great pride in the fact that we know each one of our farmers personally.

Although no two Cornish Dairy Co farms are the same, all our farmers share a common set of values and comply with a comprehensive set of standards that ensure high levels of animal health, welfare and husbandry. We are caretakers of the land; we and our farmers recognise the need to look after the environment for future generations.

Can I substitute salted butter for unsalted butter in recipes?

Both salted butter and unsalted butter can be used interchangeably in any recipe, but if the recipe calls specifically for unsalted butter, it’s probably because the recipe has been tested with it and is preferred for that particular recipe.  If you only have salted butter, you can reduce the recipe’s salt by about half when substituting. You can add about 1/4 teaspoon of salt per half cup of butter to convert unsalted butter to salted.

Does unsalted butter last as long as salted butter?

Because salt is a preservative, salted butter tends to last longer than unsalted butter.  However, the amount of salt in salted butter isn’t standardized, so it varies across brands and can even vary from batch to batch within the same brand.

If a recipe doesn’t specify which type of butter to use, which should I choose?

Generally, you should use unsalted butter. You can always add salt to your unsalted butter, but you can’t take it out if you want it less salty!
