A mix of dairy herds

Our milk comes from a mix of dairy herds; Brown Swiss, Friesian, Holsteins and Jerseys. It is this teamwork between us and our farmers which ensures the cows have the right diet, care and attention to produce perfectly balanced milk every time.

Fun fact: Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Cornwall’s landscape and climate is shaped by ocean-fed storms bringing mineral rich rain and mild coastal air. This creates lush valleys and rolling pastures ideal for dairy farming and gives our milk its delicious flavour.

FAQs

Learn more about our Cornish Dairy Co standards and delicious dairy products.

Is Cornish Dairy Co milk organic?

We don’t produce organic milk. We work to a set of high standards called our Our Farming Commitment, which helps us to look after the pastures, herds and wildlife.

Are Cornish Dairy Co products pasteurised and suitable for pregnant women?

All our products are made from pasteurised milk, and suitable for pregnant women but always consult with a health professional if you are ever unsure.

What are the Cornish Dairy Co farming standards?

Wherever possible our cows graze on pastures and this is independently audited as part of the annual Red Tractor audit.

Although no two Cornish Dairy Co farms are the same, all our farmers share a common set of values and comply with a comprehensive set of standards that ensure high levels of animal health, welfare and husbandry.

We share our farmers commitment to continuous improvement in the area of animal health and welfare. As such, we are determined to work with and support them, to ensure that their on-farm practices and performance levels meet the expectation of our customers and ultimately those who consume our products.

What’s the best way to recycle milk bottles?

They crush down perfectly just as they are and can be left with your council recycling collection. The lids can be recycled too.

What is semi-skimmed milk and how is it different from whole milk?

Semi-skimmed milk is produced by skimming off some of the cream from the milk, to lower the overall fat content. Regular semi-skimmed milk contains 1.6g of fat per 100ml, which is just under half the fat level of whole milk (which contains a minimum level of 3.5% fat).  Semi-skimmed milk contains around 1.8% fat and is traditionally marketed in green packaging in the UK.

How many calories are in semi-skimmed milk compared to other types?

Our Cornish Dairy Co Cornish semi-skimmed milk contains 48 calories per 100ml, compared to 65 calories per 100ml in whole milk and 35 calories per 100ml in skimmed milk. This makes it a middle ground option for those looking to reduce calories without going to fully skimmed milk.

Does semi-skimmed milk have the same nutritional value as whole milk?

All varieties of milk, including whole, semi-skimmed, 1% fat and skimmed, contain similar amounts of protein, and most vitamins and minerals. Removing some or most of the fat from milk doesn’t affect levels of protein or most vitamins and minerals. Semi-skimmed milk actually contains slightly more calcium than whole milk because the calcium is found in the watery part of milk, so by removing some fat, the overall proportion of calcium is increased.

Who should choose semi-skimmed milk?

If you’re trying to reduce your fat intake but find the leap from whole milk to skimmed milk too much straight away, then semi-skimmed milk can be a useful compromise. It allows you to reduce your fat intake from teas, coffees, hot chocolates and cooking, without feeling like you’re sacrificing too much creamy flavour.

What can I use semi-skimmed milk for?

Semi-skimmed milk is perfectly balanced for every recipe and family need – it’s lower fat than whole milk while maintaining the creamy consistency and full flavour, making it a must-have for hot drinks, baking and so much more.
